Benjamin Koppel (DK), Scott Colley (US) and Brian Blade (US) met in Copenhagen in 2012 when they played two sold-out concerts together during Koppel’s Summer Jazz festival. Koppel and Colley had played together before, and when Blade joined the two, magic happened.

The three virtuosos formed the trio Koppel / Colley / Blade Collective, which released its first album in 2015.

In Koppel / Colley / Blade Collective, Blade’s creativity on the drums perfectly matches Colley’s strong improvisational skills on the bass – and interacting with Koppel’s lyrical saxophone playing, the trio draws a strong melodic soundscape. The music ranges from quiet, ballad-oriented jazz to more powerful, energetic, rocking subgenres.

Koppel / Colley / Blade recorded their second album In New York City in March 2016.

Biographies:
Benjamin Koppel (b. 1974, Denmark)
Benjamin Koppel is one of the most award-winning musicians of his generation. As a bandleader he has released more than 30 CDs, on which he collaborates with giants such as Paul Bley, Miroslav Vitous and Phil Woods. In 2011, Koppel was made a French Knight of the Order of Arts and Culture for his major contribution to French jazz through collaborations with Daniel Humair and others.

Scott Colley (b. 1963, USA)
Scott Colley has served as bassist for jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Andrew Hill and Michael Brecker. His strong melodic sense, improvisational skills and remarkable ability to immerse himself in the music have served him well in groups led by colleagues Chris Potter, John Scofield, Adam Rogers, Brian Blade, David Binney and Kenny Werner. In addition, Colley has a number of releases under his own name. These releases feature musicians such as Bill Frisell, Mark Turner, Ralph Alessi and many more.

Brian Blade (b. 1970, USA)
Brian Blade has established himself as one of the most important drummers of the 21st century, and his unique abilities behind the drum kit have given him the opportunity to work with musicians in both jazz and other rhythmic genres. Blade has worked with Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Daniel Lanois, among others, and in the jazz world he has been a regular member of both Wayne Shorter’s and Herbie Hancock’s bands. Last but not least, Blade has also had much success with his own projects: The Fellowship Band and Mama Rosa.
